CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. These models feature a variable-aperture camera, longer battery life, and the new A20 Pro chip. They also introduce manual camera controls and a redesigned Dynamic Island. Both phones run iOS 27 and support Siri AI through Apple Intelligence. Preorders begin on September 12, with official availability starting September 18 in over 65 countries and regions.
The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera now allows users to select among four aperture settings. Six laser-cut blades manage the opening and influence depth of field and light intake. Users can also adjust shutter speed and white balance within the Camera app. New Pro features include a histogram for exposure checking. Video capabilities include Cinematic effects at up to 60 frames per second after capture. Time-lapse recordings now support 4K resolution with Dolby Vision HDR.
The camera system also introduces Reference Image, which records signed sensor data when Reference mode is activated. Private Cloud Compute converts that data into a reference image for comparison in the Photos app. This feature helps users determine if an image has changed after capturing. Support for SynthID will be added in a software update later this year. Greg Josziak, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, stated that the lineup advances camera, performance, battery, and intelligence features.
The new camera system provides more detailed manual controls
The A20 Pro processor is built on a 2-nanometer manufacturing process. It features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. The device also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores. Apple claims the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases the surface area for cooling. The thermal system has been updated alongside new chip packaging to support higher sustained performance during demanding tasks.
Battery life has improved on both Pro models, especially on eSIM-only variants. The iPhone 18 Pro can last up to 36 hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro Max extends that to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the Pro models to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only versions will be available in markets such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the Middle East.
Siri AI Deepens Apple Intelligence on iOS 27
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max come with iOS 27 and access to the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected in October. Siri AI can pull information from messages, emails, and photos when users ask. It can also respond to on-screen content and assist with tasks via the Camera app.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States. The Pro Max begins at $1,299. Users can choose storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Orders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Sales commence in the initial markets on September 18. From September 25, another 20 countries and regions will receive the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
