Healthcare and Tech Sectors Offer Largest Gains for US Workforce Growth

WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – According to official labor market projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The updated ten-year forecast predicts overall employment expanding by 3.5% through 2035, creating around 5.9 million new jobs nationwide. The list of fastest growing jobs highlights rising demand for healthcare specialists and green energy technicians, driven by changing demographics and technological shifts in hiring trends.

Fastest growing jobs list shows healthcare leading US growth
Data scientists analyze complex predictive algorithms and statistical models on computers.

Demand in the healthcare sector continues to rise due to aging populations and broader practice regulations, making up half of the top twenty fastest-growing roles. Nurse practitioners are projected to see a 41% employment increase through 2035, fueled by expanded primary care responsibilities and ongoing need for chronic disease management. Rapid growth also affects medical and health services managers at 24%, physical therapist assistants at 23%, and physician assistants at 21%.

Workforce needs in renewable energy are also surging within technical fields. Solar photovoltaic installers rank second with a 37% growth projection, while wind turbine service technicians are expected to expand by 30% during the decade. Industry experts note these middle-skill roles provide good wages without requiring a four-year degree, making them vital career options in green infrastructure.

Shift in Industry Sectors Evident in the Fastest Growing Jobs

Technology and data analysis roles form the third key growth area. Data scientists are expected to grow by 35%, while computer and information research scientists will increase by 22%, driven by expanding adoption of machine learning in business. CBS News reports that artificial intelligence infrastructure needs are also boosting growth in utility services and professional sectors. The list shows how enterprise tech integration reshapes traditional skills requirements.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor predicts declines in administrative, clerical, and manual manufacturing jobs, due to automation. Word processors and typists may decline by 34.4%, with telephone operators down 27.6%, switchboard operators down 26%, and data entry clerks decreasing by 25.5%. Economists highlight that automated workflows and AI tools are increasingly replacing routine data tasks.

Nurse Practitioners Lead Overall Growth With 41% Rise

Economists note that the 3.5% overall job growth rate for the nation shows a slowdown compared to the 10.9% employment increase over the past ten years. Slower population growth and shifting age profiles will limit total labor force participation through 2035. As a result, employers in fast-growing sectors will likely emphasize reskilling and attractive pay packages to draw specialized talent.

Official labor agencies will continue providing annual updates to track structural changes in regional job markets and industry classifications. Educational and training programs are aligning curricula with high-demand fields to help address emerging skill gaps. Access to detailed occupational data remains available through official Labor Department portals to support workforce development efforts.
